Proctored Assessments

Complete guide to participating in supervised assessments that require proctor oversight.

Proctored assessments are supervised exams that require real-time oversight from a certified proctor. These assessments ensure academic integrity and are commonly used for high-stakes certifications and evaluations.

Assessments become proctored when:

  • Publishers enable the “Force Proctor” setting on the content
  • Administrators assign content with “Use Proctor” enabled
  • The assessment is marked for supervised completion

You’ll see a street-view icon (👤) next to proctored content in your dashboard and course listings.

Before starting a proctored assessment, ensure you have:

  • Stable internet connection
  • Updated web browser
  • Working microphone and camera (if required)
  • Quiet, private testing environment
  • Valid identification ready

Some sessions use automatic enrollment with an enroll code. Enroll codes are four characters (uppercase letters and digits).

  1. Navigate to the proctored assessment
  2. Click Enter Enroll Code when prompted
  3. Enter the enroll code provided by your proctor or administrator
  4. Click Join Session

The system will automatically assign you to the appropriate session. Any existing in-progress or not-yet-started assessment enrollments will be linked to the session automatically.

Note: Enrollment closes once a session is complete or expired. If you receive an error, confirm the session is still active with your administrator.

For pre-assigned sessions:

  1. Access the assessment from your dashboard
  2. You’ll be automatically directed to the proctor lobby
  3. Wait for the proctor to start the session
  4. Once started, you’ll be redirected to the assessment

When you first access a proctored assessment:

  1. You’ll enter a waiting lobby with Waiting status
  2. The proctor will verify your identity and setup
  3. Once the session begins, your status changes to In Session
  4. You’ll be automatically redirected to the assessment content

Your status in a session will progress through these states:

  • Enrolled — Assigned to the session, not yet in the lobby
  • Waiting — In the lobby, waiting for the proctor to start
  • In Session — Assessment is active and available
  • Session Complete — Assessment finished successfully
  • Session Expired — The session window passed before completion

The session itself also has a status visible to your proctor:

  • Pending — Session created, not yet started
  • Started — Session is active
  • Complete — Session has ended
  • Expired — Session window closed without completion

During proctored sessions:

  • Follow all verbal instructions from your proctor
  • Keep your camera and microphone active if required
  • Avoid switching browser tabs or applications
  • Raise your hand or speak up for technical issues
  • Complete the assessment within the allotted time

Sessions have a defined availability window. The session cannot run longer than 24 hours from its start time. Complete the assessment before the session expires.

Your proctor may:

  • Verify your identity before starting
  • Provide verbal instructions about the assessment
  • Monitor your progress throughout
  • Assist with technical difficulties
  • Stop the session if integrity concerns arise

If you experience issues during the assessment:

  1. Raise your hand to get the proctor’s attention
  2. Clearly describe the technical problem
  3. Follow the proctor’s troubleshooting instructions
  4. Wait for permission before taking any actions

Cannot Enter Enroll Code

  • Verify the code is correct — codes are four characters, uppercase letters and digits (the letter “O” is not used; if you see a zero-like character, try the digit 0)
  • Ensure the session is still active (not expired or complete)
  • Contact your administrator if the code doesn’t work

No Session Found With That Code

  • Double-check the code with your proctor
  • Confirm the session is set up for auto-enrollment
  • Ensure the session has not already expired

Stuck in Waiting Status

  • Confirm the proctor has started the session
  • Check your internet connection
  • Refresh the browser if the status doesn’t update

Assessment Won’t Load

  • Ensure you meet all technical requirements
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • Try using a different browser
  • Contact technical support if issues persist

Already Enrolled in Another Session

  • You can only be enrolled in one proctored session at a time for overlapping time windows
  • Contact your administrator to resolve scheduling conflicts

For optimal performance:

  • Use Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge
  • Enable JavaScript and cookies
  • Allow camera/microphone access when prompted
  • Disable browser extensions that might interfere

After completing a proctored assessment:

  • Results are processed automatically
  • Pass/fail status is determined by the passing score
  • Certificates are generated for successful completions
  • Results appear in your transcript and reports

Your completion record will include:

  • Proctor name, job title, and employer
  • Session date and time
  • Assessment results and scores
  • Verification of supervised completion

This documentation provides proof of supervised completion for certification bodies, employers, and regulatory requirements.

If you don’t pass on your first attempt:

  • Review your results and feedback
  • Study the relevant content areas
  • Schedule another proctored session if retakes are allowed
  • Follow your organization’s policy for reassessment

After successful completion:

  1. Download your certificate from your transcript
  2. Add the certification to your professional portfolio
  3. Report completion to your supervisor if required
  4. Use the credential for career advancement opportunities

Proctored assessments provide verified credentials that demonstrate your competency and commitment to professional development in your field.
